SCUDOCHROMAME 101FB™ Application Guide

Achieve a hard, glossy, chrome-ready finish with these steps:

1. Surface Preparation

  • Prep Any Porous Material: SCUDOCHROMAME 101FB™ bonds exceptionally well with all porous materials like low-density polystyrene and ceramic. Ensure your surface is clean and dust-free before you begin.
  • Direct to Polystyrene: Apply directly to polystyrene without altering its stability. This creates a robust, smooth, glossy coat up to 200 microns thick.

2. 2K Mixing

  • Precise Proportions: This epoxy coating requires a two-part mix. Combine 1 part SCUDOCHROMAME 101FB OMNIBASE with two parts hardener SCUDOCATALYST 1FB. This is a 50% catalyzing ratio.
  • Mix Thoroughly: Blend both components extremely well before application.

3. Application Hints

  • Choose Your Method: Typically, this epoxy resin is applied using a brush, roller, or spray equipment. Remember to shake before use.
  • Thinning (If Needed): If the mix feels too dense or hard to spray, add isopropyl alcohol as a thinner, up to 5%-10% by weight of the mixed product.
  • Initial Dry Time: Let it dry for 30 minutes at ambient temperature (20-25°C). Then, you’re ready to apply TuttoChromaMe or EXTRATuttoChromaMe for that shiny chrome finish (see following steps).
  • Crucial Drying: Allow it to dry in a clean, dust-free ambient environment (20-25°C) for 3-4 hours. Never touch the coated surface during this time.

4. Chrome Application

  • Prepare for Chrome: Shake the 1K TuttoChromaMe STD TC 20 thoroughly before pouring it into your HVLP spray gun.
  • Spray with Precision: Use a 1-1.2/1.3 mm nozzle at a nozzle pressure of 50 bar (21.75 psi).
  • Layer for Perfection: Apply three layers of TuttoChromaMe using crossed strokes until the surface is completely covered. We recommend spraying from bottom to top, then crossing from left to right.
  • Optimal Reflectivity:
    • Quick Cure: Dry at 60°-70°C for 70 minutes.
    • Max Shine: Allow it to dry at ambient temperature for 24 hours for optimal results. The more time solvents have to evaporate, the higher the reflectivity will be (it can reach 90%-95% spherical reflectivity).

5. Top Coat Application

  • Mix Your Top Coat: Combine CLEARTOP MT300 (100 parts) with CLEARCATALYST MT936 (40 parts) for a 5:2 mix ratio. Apply with an HVLP spray gun (or standard spray gun) using a 2-1.3 mm nozzle at a pressure of 1.50 bar (21.75 psi).
  • Custom Colors: If special coloring is desired, add CME Pigments to the mixed CLEARTOP MT300 and CLEARCATALYST MT936. Follow the precise mix ratio % specified for each CME Pigment on its label.
  • Drying & Handling: Let it dry at 60°-70°C for 1 hour or at room temperature for 12-24 hours. After 3 hours, it can be handled, packaged, and wrapped.
  • Double Layer for Durability: Always apply a second layer of CLEARTOP MT300 (100%) + CLEARCATALYST MT936 (40%) after any color coating. This ensures a high-quality, glossy, and highly durable finish.
